“Gosh! This denture is not fitting my jaw” – This was the first remark of my first patient for whom I fabricated a full set of dentures , way back in 2000.
Strangely, I had put in close to 200 hours on taking the right measurement, doing multiple trials and also ensuring that all was fine . But, when it came to the final trial – what went wrong continues to be a mystery !
When I look back , I realise, there are half a dozen blunders that I had committed and most of which had to do with manipulation of different materials – be it the trial wax ,or be it the white plaster of Paris or manipulating the impression compound and finally it also had to do with my fear of going wrong. All of which meant, redoing the denture.
Couple of days back , I happen to meet a friend of mine who invested all his money in buying a 3D printer. And when I asked him as to why did he have to shell out all his hard earned money and the wealth he had created in buying a 3D printer. His response was mind boggling. The applications of this technology is as much as what is automation to a manufacturing plant.
